Our tour is by boat designed to carry up to six guests in two cabins. Each day we will search for the best habitats. Spring and summer is is the time for seeing nesting species, whereas autumn and winter is brilliant for migratory & over-wintering birds. The success of the Daube-Delta Anytime Tour is guaranteed because of the excellent local knowledge and experience of the Avestours guides such as Laszlo Ambrus and Zoltan Baczo. Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Bucharest at Otopeni AirportThe distance between the airport and the port in Tulcea is 320 km. Pack Lunch. On our way we stop to rest and look around at places suitable for birdwatching near Lake Hasarlac. Accommodation in a hotel or pension in Tulcea, then a 'welcome gala dinner' of fish specialities from the Danube with Champagne & regional wines served.
Day 2: Danube Delta
After breakfast we board our boat in the port of Tulcea then set sail down the Mila 35 Channel and Sontea Channel to Fortuna Lake. The day will include a birdwatching tour by boat on Lake Nebunu, Lake Baclanesti and Lake Fortuna. We will visit some typical bird colonies. After dinner we will have a scientific lecture on the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve.
Day 3: Fortuna Lake
Mila 23 - Caraorman – Peripolovca channel- Sfantu Gheorge channel. Breakfast at 8.00am, lunch at 1.00pm. on the boat. During the voyage you will be able to watch the birds from the open terrace of the boat and admire the beautiful scenery. By the evening we shall arrive in Sfantu Gheorghe channel at km 52. We will visit a wood on foot. Dinner at 8.00pm.
Day 4: Navigating the Sfantu Gheorghe Channel
From km 52 to the Sfantu Gheorghe fishing Village. Breakfast at 8.00am. Lunch on the boat at 1.00pm. The day will be spent birdwatching on the open terrace of the boat. In the afternoon we will visit the marshes near Sfatu-Gheorghe fishing village on foot. Dinner at 8.00pm.
Day 5: Sahalin Island
Early breakfast at 7.00am. We will then take a boat-trip to the Sahalin Island where we will spend the day birdwatching on foot. Pack Lunch. Substantial dinner at 8.00pm.
Day 6: Boat trip on Tatru Channel
Birdwatching by foot near Black Sea coast. Pack Lunch. Substantial dinner at 8.00 p.m.
Day 7: Channel Sf. Gheorge
At dawn the boat sets sail aback on Chanel Sf. Gheorge to Tulcea. During the voyage you will be able to watch the birds from the open terrace of the boat. We will stop overnight near Tulcea, and have our farewell party at 8.00pm. followed by an evaluation of the tour whilst we construct our overall list of species.
Day 8: Homeward Bound
After an early breakfast at 7.00am. we will move our luggage into the car and drive from Tulcea to Bucharest airport taking our packed lunch en route.
